De sleutelgang verbindt de uiteinden van de twee gangen met dienstvertrekken. De vorm lijkt wel op een sleutelgat. De vorm van de gang is gebaseerd op het profiel van het menselijk lichaam namelijk smal van onder en breder van boven. Een sleutelgatvormige gang neemt weinig ruimte in. De ronde vorm aan de bovenkant maakt het heel sterk, daarom werden dit soort gangen veel toegepast in forten.

The key corridor connects the ends of the service quarters corridors with each other. The shape somewhat resembles a keyhole. The shape of the corridor is based on the front profile of the human body, narrow at the bottom and wider at the top. A key shaped corridor doesn’t take up a lot of space and is very strong, this is why a lot of these corridors were applied in forts.
